Visit to Floral Media

On Wednesday morning, we went on a lovely visit to Floral Media at Caunton. It stopped raining as we arrived and the sun shone so we were treated to a lovely rainbow too. 26 of us had a very informative and interesting walk around the gardens followed by coffee or tea with a selection of cakes. Well worth a visit for any group interested in gardening or flower arranging. Many thanks to Steve and Paula

LOWDHAM SUMMER FAYRE

Just a reminder, that although we haven’t got a Summer Show this year we are holding a smaller but hopefully popular event, Lowdham Summer Fayre.  The event will run from 1pm to 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday with free parking on Lowdham Playing fields from midday, after the car boot sale.  There will be over 25 stalls arranged around Main Street from the WI Hall at one end to Lowdham School at the other end – crafts, tombolas, children’s activities, cakes, plants, toys, books, gifts and charity stalls.  We will be serving cream teas on the grassed area behind the Village Hall and the afternoon will culminate with our usual duck race at 4pm.  Please bring along your members potatoes to be emptied out of the bucket and weighed on the car park at the front of the Village Hall.  Christine will also be there to renew your memberships (£10 yearly) as we have some speakers booked for our new membership year and hope to be able to start up trips and visits again.

PLANT SALE

We still have plenty of plants left after another successful online plant sale so will be holding an actual plant sale this Saturday morning, 5th June, from 9am to midday in Lowdham Village Hall car park. Lots of good quality bedding plants, vegetables, herbs and perennials. Along side the plant sale there will be a charity bake sale for ‘Stand up to Cancer’. Please join us.

VIRTUAL SPRING SHOW

Entries for this year’s Virtual Spring Show can now be uploaded to the website.  It is simple to do and the instructions can be accessed here. Here are the entries so far:

All entries need to be in by the end of Saturday 10th April, ready for judging on the Sunday.  Once your entries have been submitted, they will need to be moderated, so there will be a slight delay before they appear on the website.  There will be certificates awarded for the first, second and third place awarded in each class.

Here is a reminder of the 7 classes.

Class 2 – a vase/container of mixed daffodils (any number)

Class 3 – a vase/container of mixed spring flowers

Class 4 – a flowering shrub (picked or in situ)

Class 5 – a bowl or pot of spring bulbs or flowers (photographed growing in the pot they are planted in)

Class 6 – one flowering or foliage houseplant

Class 7 – daffodil with the longest stem (to be photographed next to a ruler or tape measure to indicate length in cms)

Please join in with your entries and let’s hope that next year’s spring show will be a normal one!
