Annual Summer Show

Now, have you seen this sign in the last few days? If the answer is yes then you’ll be aware it is the annual Summer Show in Lowdham next Monday the 29th August 2016. Fingers crossed for some nice sunny weather this year to help make it a fun afternoon. So we hope to see you at the Show which is held at the Village Hall and adjacent fields. Oh, nearly forgot, even if you haven’t seen our advertising sign please pop along and take in the atmosphere of a village show.

SUMMER SHOW

This year’s Summer Show is fast approaching. The schedule and entry form can be downloaded from our website www.lowdhamhortsoc.org.uk.  Paper copies will be available at various shops in the Lowdham and Burton Joyce over the next few days.

As usual, we will be setting up the marquee etc on the afternoon of Sunday 28th August so any help then, or for an hour or two at the Show on the Monday, would be much appreciated.

Enjoy the sunshine and your gardens

SOUTHWELL FLOWER POD EVENING VISIT

Our first evening trip for this summer is to Southwell Flower Pod, as a follow up to the interesting talk that we had about it in February.  We are visiting on Thursday 30th June at 7pm.  The evening visit will last approx 2 hours and we will be served with refreshments. The cost will be subsidised by the society at £3 per person for members and £5 for non-members.  I do need numbers beforehand please, so contact me via the website if you would like to join us.

I suggest people meet at the car park of Lowdham Village Hall at 6.30 to share cars or at the Flower Pod just before 7.

FORTHCOMING VISITS

We still have a few spaces left on our next coach trip

On Sunday 12th June, we will be visiting Scampston Walled Garden near Malton in Yorkshire. It is reputed to be is a stunningly beautiful contemporary garden, quite unlike any other. Designed by the renowned Dutch plantsman, Piet Oudolf, and featuring modern, perennial meadow planting alongside more traditional areas, which is said to be one of the most exciting survivals of the great age of Victorian gardening.  There is a tea room, shop and plant centre too.

On the day we are visiting there is also a Vintage Fair held in the surrounding parkland, which we will have complimentary access into.  The cost of the trip is very reasonable at £14 for members and £18 for non-members (this includes transport and entry into the garden).  It would be great to take a coach full and all are welcome.

We have also organised our first evening trip for this summer.  We are visiting Southwell Flower Pod as a follow up to the interesting talk that we had about it February.  We are visiting on Thursday 30th June at 7pm.  The evening visit will last approx 2 hours and we will be served with refreshments too.  The cost will be subsidised by the society at £3 per person for members and £5 for non-members.  I do need numbers and payment beforehand please.

If you would like more details or to join either visit, don’t hesitate to contact me via the website.

Plant Sale – Sat 14th May 2016

DSC_2144

Well, on a bright but quite cold mid May morning we held our popular plant sale in the Lowdham Village Hall car park. This included a wide range of summer bedding plants, tomato, courgettes and marrow plants plus a selection of perennials for herbaceous borders. All together it was a successful morning with people from the village and further afield coming along to look and make purchases.

We thank all those who supported yet another venture of our horticultural society and of course a big thank you to members of the society who helped on the morning of the sale. Furthermore, and on this theme, an even bigger thank you goes to our ‘very own local nurseryman’ for all his efforts in growing the high quality summer bedding plants.

We hope that you now do your bit in the garden and have a lovely display of summer colour.
